![]() ![]() With the realization, Shadow heads straight to Chad Mulligan, who is still on the crime scene investigating Derek’s death. Shards of ice work their way over the Lakeside history tomes on the bookshelf (which is certainly a different way to get him to fall in line with the novel’s progression), providing Shadow with a clue – the small town has a history of “missing” teens that miraculously disappear, one every December spanning the last 10 years (at least). His search for an answer results in another mysterious feat of magic as ice forms over a missing person flyer on a side table bearing Alison McGovern’s name and picture. Lakeside proves to be a slightly better endeavor as Shadow listens to an old, recorded tape of Sandy’s in his apartment. Quick to call Wednesday out on his strange behavior – peace talks and a single word, “please”, setting him on edge, Czernobog refuses the old god’s plea for help obtaining a truce between old and new. In Chicago, Wednesday wishes to discuss peace with Czernobog, recognizing that his campaign for war has been an “abysmal failure.” Claiming that the new gods won before efforts even started, Wednesday attempts to call the entire thing off, sending Czernobog into a rage-filled spiral, worried about the possibility of being forgotten.
